Älmhult is most famous for two reasons: First, the world's first IKEA store is located in the town. Its founder, Ingvar Kamprad, is from the region. Second, the world famous Swedish scientist Carl von Linne, was born in 1707 in nearby Råshult. He is probably best known as a botanist and for his system of classifying organisms, which is still used today.
