New PLUS+1™ Inverter
Press Release – For Worldwide Release: May 26, 2008
Sauer-Danfoss’ new PLUS+1™ Inverter significantly improves AC motor control and efficiency.
NEUMÜNSTER, GERMANY – SAUER-DANFOSS INC. (NYSE:SHS) Sauer-Danfoss has announced the release of its new PLUS+1 Inverter MI06, the first in a range of AC inverters designed specifically for electrically controlled, battery powered vehicles. PLUS+1 Compliant, the new inverter uses PLUS+1 GUIDE graphical programming for set-up and adjustment of vehicle functions. This enables fast system development, and easy AC motor characterization. As a result, design engineers are able to provide significant improvements in both vehicle performance and efficiency.
“With the introduction of the new PLUS+1 Inverter, Sauer-Danfoss will strengthen its unique position of being able to offer both traditional hydraulic drive solutions and complete electric drive solutions,” said Joachim Hergt, Product Portfolio Manager, Sauer-Danfoss, Neumünster, Germany. “We can provide our customers with optimal vehicle systems, irrespective of the technology required.”
Advanced motor control and improved efficiency
The PLUS+1 Inverters use flux vector control to ensure fast and easy motor set up. This helps minimize power losses in the drive system and ensures optimal drive performance at any speed. The result is smooth acceleration and superior maneuverability, with additional improvements in traction and gradability. The vector control algorithm also provides benefits with respect to overall vehicle efficiency and the overload capacity of the motor, improving machine productivity and extending vehicle working hours per battery charge.
Easy system design and management with PLUS+1 technology
PLUS+1 Inverters are user-programmable, with pre-defined software blocks that enable flexible adjustment of vehicle functions, fast system development and easy AC motor characterization. The comprehensive interface, with CAN port and multifunctional Input/Outputs, allows specific vehicle functions to be easily configured using PLUS+1 GUIDE drag and drop graphical programming. This provides OEMs with significant system design flexibility and improvements in functional configuration of machines. In addition, the PLUS+1 Service Tool also provides advanced vehicle diagnostics for cost-effective maintenance and system updates.
High quality and reliability
The new inverters are designed to be both robust and shock resistant. They are also sealed with a breathable, waterproof membrane, which gives the inverters an IP64 rating. This not only improves reliability, but also enables vehicles to operate in tough working environments with a high dust and moisture content and within a temperature range of minus 40ºC to plus 50ºC. “The design of the new PLUS+1 Inverter has been optimized to provide superior thermal performance,” states Hergt. “Our advanced thermal management technology utilizes copper based IMS power electronics, which minimizes thermal stress on components and helps extend the operating life of the inverter.”
The basic design philosophy of the PLUS+1 Inverter encompasses a wide range of hardware and software features, which not only help protect the drive system, but also results in minimal down time for the vehicle. Specific outputs offer redundant control, which support advanced reliability requirements, while the thermally compensated current limit of the PLUS+1 Inverter provide significant improvements for high quality vehicle control systems. Together with high drive performance and efficiency, the PLUS+1 Inverter has been designed to improve productivity and provide the best life-time cost for end-users.
